Fuel Transfer Pump

Usage:

Remove & Install Fuel Transfer Pump

Fluid Spillage Containment

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Turn the fuel supply line valve to the "OFF" position.

2. Remove tube assembly (2) and tube assembly (4).

3. Remove bolt (1) and bolt (5). Remove fuel transfer pump (3). Remove the O-ring seal from the fuel transfer pump if necessary.

NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the fuel transfer pump.

4. Make sure the O-ring seal is in position on the fuel transfer pump. Put fuel transfer pump (3) in position on the fuel injection pump housing. Install bolt (5) and bolt (1).

5. Install tube assembly (4) and tube assembly (2).

6. Turn the fuel supply line valve to the "ON" position.

Disassemble & Assemble Fuel Transfer Pump

Start By:

a. remove fuel transfer pump

1. Remove bolts (2). Remove cover (1) from the fuel transfer pump housing (11). Remove seal (5) and seal (6), and valve (4) from cover (1).

2. Remove spring (3) from the fuel transfer pump housing. Remove washer (7), valve (13), seal (8), sleeve (9), and piston (10). Remove seal (19) from sleeve (9).

3. Remove seal (14) and guide and tappet assembly (12) from the fuel transfer pump housing.

4. Remove screw (17) and cover (18). Remove seal (16). Remove valve assembly (15) from the fuel transfer pump housing.

5. To assemble fuel transfer pump, install valve assembly (15) in the fuel transfer pump housing. Lubricate seal (16) lightly and install it with cover (18) and screw (17).


NOTICE

The tappet and guide of the guide and tappet assembly must be serviced as a unit.


6. Install seal (14) and guide and tappet assembly (12) in the fuel transfer pump housing.

7. Install seal (19) on sleeve (9). Install piston (10), sleeve (9), seal (8), valve (13), and washer (7) in the fuel transfer pump housing. Install spring (3).

8. Install seal (5), seal (6), and valve (4), in cover (1). Install cover (1) and bolts (2) on fuel transfer pump housing (11).
