New Software for the 3196 Marine Engines {7620}

Usage:

3196 2XR
Marine Engine:
3196 (S/N: 2XR1-UP)

Description of Change: New software is available for the 3196 Marine Engine. The following information is listed in the table below: the horsepower, the rating tier and the part number for the software.

Table 1
Horsepower     Rating     Software Part Number
660     "E"     164-3811
600     "E"     177-3038
570     "D"     180-2833
490     "C"     180-2832
385     "B"     164-3807
340     "A"     164-3804
The new software includes minor changes to the timing in order for the engine to be IMO compliant. The performance of the engine is not affected by these changes. The timing is retarded during slow vessel mode in order to improve engine stability. The automatic calibration of the boost sensor is more accurate and the manual calibration has been removed. The fuel temperature compensation strategy is changed in order to remove the power growth below 30 °C (86 °F) fuel temperature. The ramp time from slow vessel mode back to low idle is also removed.

A new software release is available for 3196 engines that are rated at "A" and "B" even though these engines are already in compliance with the IMO emission requirements. Changes include the E-trim for the injectors in addition to the changes that were made to the software for engine ratings of "C", "D", and "E". E-trim allows the ECM to read each injector's four digit code. The ECM will fine tune the injection duration time of each injector with this information, so that all injection times are equal.

The new software for the 3196 Marine Engine can be downloaded from the Caterpillar Web version of the Service Information System. Consult your authorized Caterpillar Marine Engine dealer for assistance.
