Engine Cranks but Will Not Start

Probable Causes

  • Electrical power supply

  • Low fuel pressure and/or carburetor

  • Connectors for the Ignition transformers

  • Magneto

  • Magneto Interface Box (MIB)

  • No speed sensor signal

  • No crank angle sensor signal

  • Timing Control Module (TCM)

Recommended Repairs

Electrical Power Supply

Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Power Supply". If the DDT will not communicate with the TCM, refer to Troubleshooting, "DDT Troubleshooting".

Low Fuel Pressure and/or Carburetor

Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, SENR4604, "Troubleshooting".

Connectors for the Ignition Transformers

Check the connections to the ignition transformers. Verify that the wiring is correct.

Magneto

Replace the magneto. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, SENR4604, "Magneto Installation" and Troubleshooting, "Magneto Calibration".

Magneto Interface Box (MIB)

Replace the MIB.

Speed Sensor Signal

Refer to Troubleshooting, "Speed Sensor".

Crank Angle Sensor Signal

Refer to Troubleshooting, "Crank Angle Sensor".

Timing Control Module (TCM)

Replace the TCM. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Programming the TCM".
