(5) Magnetic pickup for the governor control

(6) Flywheel ring gear

Use the following procedure in order to adjust the clearance between the flywheel ring gear and the magnetic pickups.

  1. While the engine is stopped, check the position of the gear tooth. Ensure that the tooth of the flywheel ring gear is centered in the opening for the magnetic pickup.

  2. Install the magnetic pickup. Ensure that the magnetic pickup is in contact with the tooth of the flywheel ring gear.

Note: Some magnetic pickups have flat bottoms and some magnetic pickups have small tips. If the magnetic pickup has a small tip, ensure that the tip contacts the center (highest point) of the gear tooth.

  3. Unscrew the magnetic pickup .

Unscrew the magnetic pickup to the following amount. ... 1 to 1 1/4 turns

  4. Tighten the locknut.

    Tighten the locknut to the following torque. ... 45 ± 7 N·m (33 ± 5 lb ft)

    The adjusted clearance should be the following range. ... 1.58 ± 0.17 mm (0.062 ± 0.007 inch)
