Description of Change: A new connector retainer assembly is available for the Electronic Ignition System (EIS). The connector retainer assembly will attach to the transformer group at the harness connection. The connector retainer asembly should be used when the locking tab is broken, damaged, or missing. The new connector retainer assembly will provide positive retention of the primary connector.

Adaptable To: A new 178-0565 Connector Retainer Assembly and a 179-1500 Connector Retainer Assembly are used on the above Gas Engines. In Illustration 1, if dimension (B) is 22.3 mm (0.88 inch), use the 178-0565 Connector Retainer Assembly. If dimension (B) is 17.1 mm (0.67 inch), use the 179-1500 Connector Retainer Assembly. Both 178-0565 Connector Retainer Assembly and 179-1500 Connector Retainer Assembly are part of the 165-1589 Transformer Group and the 165-1590 Transformer Group. The 165-1589 Transformer Group and the 165-1590 Transformer Group are effective with the following Engines:
- G3508 (S/N: 4WD20-UP; 9TG211-UP)
- G3512 (S/N: 5JD65-UP; 7NJ565-UP)
- G3516 (S/N: 8LD96-UP)
Note: The 165-1590 Transformer Group has the same effectivity as the 165-1589 Transformer Group. The only exception is for G3516 (S/N: 4EK). Effectivity for the 165-1589 Transformer Group on this model is G3516 (S/N: 4EK2575-UP). Effectivity for the 165-1590 Transformer Group on this model is G3516 (S/N: 4EK2578-UP).Illustration 2 shows the typical connector retainer assembly. Illustration 3 shows the mounting of the connector retainer assembly over the harness connection to the transformer group.
