Fuel System Primary Filter - Clean

Usage:

------ WARNING! ------

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.



NOTICE

Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component.


    Note: The primary fuel filter is located in the base of the generator set. The filter consists of several carbon steel discs.

  1. To clean the primary fuel filter, turn handle (1) for two to three revolutions.


    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  2. After the filter is cleaned, be sure to drain the sediment from the filter. Open drain valve (2). Allow the fluid to flow into a suitable container. Then close the drain valve.
