- Lower the temperature of the bearing for the cylinder assembly. Use Tooling (C) to install the bearing into the pin bore of the cylinder assembly. Install the bearing until the bearing is centered in the bore. Use Tooling (C) to install two lip seals (2) in the pin bore of the cylinder assembly until the seals contact the bearing. Install the seals so that the sealing lips are facing out.
- Lower the temperature of the bearing for the rod assembly. Use Tooling (C) to install the bearing into the pin bore of the rod assembly. Install the bearing until the bearing is centered in the bore. Use Tooling (C) to install two lip seals (7) in the pin bore of the rod assembly until the seals contact the bearing. Install the seals so that the sealing lips are facing out.
- Install bearing (12) and ring (11) in head (5).
Note: Make sure that the grooves for the seals in head (5) are thoroughly clean prior to assembly.
- Install seal (13), seal (14), and ring (15) in head (5).
- Apply 4C-4032 Bearing Mount Compound to the groove for the wiper seal prior to assembly. Use Tooling (C) to install seal (16) in head (5). Install seal (16) with the sealing lip toward the outside of cylinder assembly (1).
- Install O-ring seal (9) and ring (10) in head (5).
- Apply clean hydraulic oil on the lip of seal (16), ring (15), seal (14) and seal (13).
- Position head (5) on cylinder assembly (1). Install bolts (6).
- Fasten a suitable lifting device to cylinder assembly (1). Temporarily install cylinder assembly (1) and head (5) onto the rod assembly. Remove bolts (6). Remove cylinder assembly (1) from the rod assembly and the head.
- Install seal assembly (18), two rings (17), and ring (19) on piston (4). Lubricate the outside of piston (4) with 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease.
- Install piston (4) on rod assembly (8). Lubricate the threads on the end of rod assembly (8) with 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease.
- Install locknut (3). Use Tooling (B) to tighten locknut (3) to a torque of
13500 ± 700 N·m (9957 ± 516 lb ft) for the W-Family bucket. - Fasten a suitable lifting device to cylinder assembly (1). Slide cylinder assembly (1) over rod assembly (8) until cylinder assembly (1) meets head (5).
- Install bolts (6) that secure head (5) to the cylinder assembly. Tighten bolts (6).
