(2) The secondary tools are used with the Wolff Hydraulic Cylinder Repair Stand. If a hydraulic repair stand is not available to disassemble the cylinder, consult the Caterpillar Service Technology Group.

Start By:

  1. Remove the bucket cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Cylinder - Remove".


    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Place the bucket cylinder on Tooling (A). The weight of the bucket cylinder is approximately 640 kg (1410 lb).

  2. Remove bolts (6) that secure head (5) to cylinder assembly (1).

  3. Use Tooling (A) in order to slide cylinder assembly (1) from rod assembly (8). While you support rod assembly (8), use a suitable lifting device in order to remove cylinder assembly (1) from the cylinder repair stand.

  4. Use Tooling (B) to remove locknut (3) that secures piston (4) to the rod assembly (8).

  5. Remove piston (4) from rod assembly (8).

  6. Remove ring (19), two rings (17), and seal assembly (18) from piston (4).

    Note: The following step is performed in order to support the head during the removal.

  7. Slide cylinder assembly (1) onto the rod assembly. Install bolts (6) that secure head (5) to the cylinder assembly. Pull the cylinder assembly and head (5) as a unit away from the rod assembly. Remove the head from the cylinder assembly.

  8. Remove seal (16), seal (14), ring (15), seal (13), bearing (12), O-ring seal (11), ring (10), and seal (9) from head (5).

  9. Remove lip seals (2) from both sides of the pin bore in cylinder assembly (1). Remove the bearing from the pin bore in cylinder assembly (1).

  10. Remove lip seals (7) from both sides of the pin bore in rod assembly (8). Remove the bearing from the pin bore in rod assembly (8).
