Fuel Tank - Remove
Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Remove the battery. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Battery - Remove and Install".

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. Clean up fuel spills immediately. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the fuel tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the fuel tank is 68 L (17.9 US gal).
- Remove bolts (1), and remove hood assembly (2) .

- Remove bolts (3), and remove fender (4) .

- Loosen hose clamp (5) and (7). Disconnect hose (6) and (8). Remove the cable straps that secure the fuel hoses to the fuel tank.

- Remove screws (9), plate assembly (10), and floormat (11) .

- Remove bolts (12) that secure the circuit breaker assembly to the plate assembly.

- Remove bolts (13), and remove plate assembly (14) .

- Remove bolts (15), and disconnect bracket (16) .

- Disconnect harness assembly (17). Remove the cable strap that secures the harness assembly to the fuel tank.

- Remove bolts (18). Slide fuel tank (19) forward in order to wrap a suitable lifting device around the tank.

- Use a suitable lifting device in order to remove fuel tank (19). The weight of the fuel tank is approximately 35 kg (77 lb).
