Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Install Tooling (A) into the rear end of the crankshaft.

    Illustration 2g00632791

  1. Install a new O-ring seal (5) for the joint that is between the crankshaft and balancer plate (3) .

  1. Apply Tooling (B) to the bore of balancer plate (3) .

Note: When you place the balancer plate into position, align the unevenly spaced holes for bolts (1) with the unevenly spaced holes in the crankshaft.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to balancer plate (3) . The weight of balancer plate (3) is approximately 40 kg (88 lb). Position balancer plate (3) onto Tooling (A) . Slide the balancer plate toward the crankshaft.

  1. Install a new O-ring seal (4) for the joint that is between balancer plate (3) and crankshaft rear gear (2) .

  1. Apply Tooling (B) to the bore of crankshaft rear gear (2) .

Note: When you place the crankshaft rear gear into position, align the unevenly spaced holes for bolts (1) with the unevenly spaced holes in the balancer plate and in the crankshaft.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to crankshaft rear gear (2) . The weight of crankshaft rear gear (2) is approximately 65 kg (143 lb). Position crankshaft rear gear (2) onto Tooling (A) . Slide the crankshaft rear gear toward the balancer plate.

  1. Install bolts (1) that attach crankshaft rear gear (2) and balancer plate (3) to the crankshaft. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 215 ± 40 N·m (159 ± 30 lb ft).

End By: Install the crankshaft rear seal and the wear sleeve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal and Wear Sleeve - Install".
