Table 1
Required Tools
Tool     Part Number     Part Description     Qty
(A)     138-7574     Link Bracket     1
(B)     -     M20x2.5x458mm (18 inch) Threaded Rod     2

Start By:

  1. Remove the travel brake valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Counterbalance Valve (Travel) - Remove" in this manual.

    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components.

To prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. Cover any disassembled components and clean them properly before assembly.

Clean the hydraulic system properly after any major component exchange or especially after a component failure, to remove any contamination.

    ------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.

To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the work tool hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.

    ----------------------

Note: The procedure to remove the right-hand travel motor and the procedure to remove the left-hand travel motor is identical. The procedure that follows is for one of the travel motors.

  1. Drain the oil from the final drive into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the final drive is 13 L (3.4 US gal).

  1. A small amount of oil will drain from hose assemblies (1) and (2) when the hose assemblies are disconnected from the travel motor. Place a suitable container under the travel motor in order to contain the oil.

  1. For installation purposes, put identification marks on each hose assembly. Disconnect hose assemblies (1) and (2) from the travel motor.

  1. Remove bolt (3) and bolt (4) from the travel motor.

    Illustration 3g00633128

  1. Install Tooling (B) in the place of the two bolts that were removed.

  1. Remove the bolt from the travel motor and fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to travel motor (5) , as shown.

  1. Remove the two remaining bolts that secure travel motor (5) to the final drive.

    Typical example

  1. Carefully pull travel motor (5) from the final drive in order to reposition the hoist and a lifting strap on the travel motor, as shown.

  1. Remove Tooling (A) and install the bolt that holds the cover in place.

  1. Remove the travel motor from the machine. The weight of the travel motor is 125 kg (275 lb).

    Illustration 5g00699158

  1. Remove O-ring seal (6) from the final drive.

  1. Remove coupling (7) .

Note: If coupling (7) is not in the final drive, remove coupling (7) from the output shaft of the travel motor.
