Fuel Injection Lines - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the fuel filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Disconnect four fuel injection lines (1) from the fuel injection nozzles.

  1. Cap all openings or plug all openings immediately.

  1. Disconnect four fuel injection lines (1) from the fuel injection pump.

  1. Plug all openings immediately.

    Note: Secure fittings (4) with a wrench when you remove fuel injection lines (1) at the fuel injection pump.

  1. Remove four fuel injection lines (1) from the engine.

  1. Remove four bolts (2) and eight washers.

  1. Remove fuel return line (3) .

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Install fuel return line (3) .

  1. Install four bolts (2) and eight new washers.

  1. Install four fuel injection lines (1) .

  1. Connect four fuel injection lines (1) at the fuel injection pump.

    Note: Secure fittings (4) with a wrench when you connect fuel injection line (1) at the fuel injection pump.

  1. Connect four fuel injection lines (1) to the fuel injection nozzles. Tighten the fuel injection lines to a torque of 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

End By: Install the fuel filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install".
