Plane and TIN Design Files

Usage:

- TER
An elevation design can be configured to allow the addition of a plane. The plane slices through the Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) design. The plane is used to build the elevation design in levels. The plane is either raised or lowered as each level is completed. The cut and fill information guides construction personnel to the specified level within the elevation design.

A common use for the plane and TIN file is in landfill applications. The landfill, which has a final elevation design, is built up in layers over a long period. The plane and TIN file allows the operators to work to a specific level, but to remain within the landfill elevation design.

The plane can be either horizontal or inclined. The plane is added to an elevation design when the design DXF file is converted to a CAT file in Cat MineStar System. The file is then sent to the machine.

The operator can modify the plane in the same way that an inclined plane design can be modified. The office can also use Cat MineStar System to modify the plane that is included in the TIN design file.

The profile view shows the combination of the plane and the elevation design.
(1) The Cyan line shows the TIN design without the plane
(2) The green line shows the TIN and the plane design

TIN and plane files are configured with a plane that is either a plane above design or a plane below design.

Plane limits bottom configuration

The Plane Limits Bottom (plane above) configuration is used when the design is shaped more like a hill, as is the case shown in illustration 2. In areas where the plane design (5) is below the TIN (3), then the TIN is used. In areas where the plane design (4) is above the TIN (6), then the plane is used.

Plane Limits Top configuration

The Plane Limits Top (plane below) configuration is used when the design is shaped more like a valley, as in the case shown in illustration 1. In areas where the plane design (9) is below the TIN (7), then the plane is used. In areas where the plane design (8) is above the TIN (10), then the TIN is used.
