Introduction
Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.
Some operators of mechanically operated machines may request a switch to operate the machine forward horn while facing the rear of the machine.
This procedure will instruct you how to install an electrical switch on the right-hand side console, which when pressed will operate the front horn.

Safety Section
Work safely. Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance, and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs.
A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person must also have the necessary training, skills, and tools to perform these functions properly.
Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this instruction and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons. Caterpillar cannot anticipate every possible circumstance of a potential hazard.
Therefore, the warnings in this publication and the warnings that are on the product are not all inclusive. Avoid using a tool, a procedure, a work method, or operating technique that is not recommended by Caterpillar. If used, ensure the safety of the operating personnel and others.
Ensure that the product will not be damaged or the product will be made unsafe by the operation, lubrication, maintenance, or the repair procedures.
Operation and maintenance of the machine must not occur unless the instructions and warnings in the machines Operation and Maintenance Manual have been read and are understood.
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility. |

Installation Procedure
Installation requires installing crimps onto existing wires. Ensure that no bare wires are left exposed after performing the splice.
Note: Use 1mm2 (16AWG). This ensures that the cable is of sufficient size for the 15 amp fuse rating. Smaller size wires may overheat and melt.
Note: When crimping connectors onto wires, use a suitable crimp tool (such as Crimp Tool (T1)). Ensure that both the conductor crimp and insulation crimp are secure.
- Take the
750 mm (29.5 inch) orange wire and crimp a Terminal (5) onto one end. Push the terminal into position 3 of the Connector (8). - Take the
400 mm (15.7 inch) purple wire and crimp a Terminal (5) onto one end. Push the connector into position 7 of the Connector (8).Show/hide tableIllustration 2 g06264883 Show/hide tableIllustration 3 g06264889 Correct wire positions on the rear of the new horn connector - Cut
100 mm (3.9 inch) off the black wire and crimp a Terminal (5) onto one end. At the other end of the wire crimp both this wire, and the remaining black wire into a Blade Terminal (4) (2 wires into 1 terminal). Push one terminal into position 8 of the switch receptacle and the other into position 2.Show/hide tableIllustration 4 g06264920 Gauge cluster removed from side console - Carefully remove the gauge cluster from the right-hand console. Use a blunt tool to pry the console from the switch housing. This will give you access to the rear of the switches.
- Remove the switch blank from the location for the horn switch as shown in Illustration 1.

Carefully crimp the two black wires together with a Blade Terminal (4) and the two purple wires together with another Blade Terminal (4).
- Reinsert the wires back into the light switch connector. Black goes into position 7, purple goes into position 8.
- Reinsert the light switch into the harness connector and push the switch back into the console.
