Sequence Valve (Brake Release) - Test and Adjust

Usage:

R1700K KT4

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Introduction

The sequence valve ensures that the brake release system is disabled when the parking brake is disengaged. This procedure is used to set the brake release sequence valve opening pressure.

Test Preparation

  1. Move the machine to a hard, level surface.

  2. Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.

  3. Install the steering frame lock.

Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Frame Lock" for the machine being serviced.

  4. Release the braking system oil pressure.

Reference: Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.

Note: Put identification marks on the hose assemblies for installation purposes.

  5. Disconnect the hose assemblies from brake control valve (2).

  6. Remove the three retaining bolts and three washers. Remove brake control valve (2).

Adjustment Procedure

  1. Connect brake control valve (2) to a hydraulic test bench.

    (7) Port (to hydraulic tank)

  2. Loosen locknut (3). Turn adjusting screw (4) fully clockwise.

  3. Connect a supply of oil to port (5). Refer to Table 1 for the oil supply pressure.

  4. Connect a supply of oil to port (6). Refer to Table 1 for the oil supply pressure.

  5. Turn adjusting screw (4) counterclockwise until oil flows from port (7).

  6. Tighten locknut (3). Refer to table 2 for the correct torque setting.

  7. Install brake control valve (2) to the machine. Install the three bolts and three washers.

  8. Connect the hose assemblies to brake control valve (2).

  9. Purge the air from the towing brake release system.

Reference: Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Brake Release System Air - Purge" for the machine that is being serviced.

  10. Remove the steering frame lock.

Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Frame Lock" for the machine being serviced.
