Introduction
Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.
This Special Instruction provides installation procedure of new software for VIMS module on certain Motor Graders.

Ensure that the product will not be damaged or the product will not be made unsafe by the operation, lubrication, maintenance, or repair procedures used.
Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Cat dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility. |
Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement. Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. Prevent possible injury by performing the procedure that follows before working on the machine. Move the machine to a smooth and level location that is away from working machines and personnel. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine. To avoid accidental engine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Remove the key for the battery disconnect switch. Use a secure padlock in order to lock the battery compartment access door. Place a "Do Not Operate" tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on. |
Installation Procedure
Perform the following procedure to install the new software files:
- Before flashing the software, obtain Cat ® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) 2014C or later and Communication Adapter 3, VIMSpc 2013A or later, MineStar configuration files if applicable (GPS and geotransformfiles).
- Download VIMS settings/information to help you reconfigure VIMS.
- Connect to VIMS Main when prompted.
- Using Cat ET, download Cat ET>Information>Product Status Report (F6).
- Record VIMS settings using VIMSpc, under Communicator pages (Auto File Download, Automatic Schedule Settings, and Settings).
- Under XIM record the MineStar Configuration.
Show/hide tableIllustration 1 g06008912 - This software requires for the CAN wires to be swapped as shown in the Illustration ***#i06642904/i06523840.10*** . If the wires match what is shown in the Illustration ***#i06642904/i06523840.10*** , switch wires 33 to 34 and 41 to 50.
- Using Cat ET>Winflash, proceed to flash 461-9131 Monitor Software Gp cycle power (off 60 seconds).
- After flashing. Connect to Cat ET.
Note: Verify and note the machine serial number / Product ID (ET>Service>Configuration>VIMS Main>General Information) for future reference.
- Install VIMS configuration 485-4413 Monitor Software Gp using VIMSpc.
- Connect to VIMSpc>Configure>Install/Copy Configuration>Install Configuration on Machine.
- Install configuration.
- Cycle power (off 60 seconds).
- Configuring VIMS using Cat ET and VIMSpc.
- Connect to Cat ET and VIMSpc.
- Verify the VIMS Main installation status (ET>Service>Configuration>VIMS>Software Enable Attachment>Data Acquisition System Installation Status: Installed.
- Enter VIMS settings via VIMSpc using information from Step ***#i06642904/i06523840.4*** (Communicator and XIM tabs).
- Upload GPS configuration and geotransform files (MineStar site) Via VIMSpc.
- Cycle power (off 60 seconds).
- Compare new Cat ET settings with the previous PSR settings and if needed, configure as to the previous PSR.
- Verify and configure.
- Connect to VIMS Main via Cat ET>File>Select ECM>VIMS Main.
- Synchronize the hour-meter. Select Cat ET>Service>Synchronize service hour-meter.
- Set ECM date/time and time zone. Select Cat ET>Service>ECM Date/Time. If equipped with GPS, only time zone will be necessary to adjust.
