Procedure to Upgrade to a Four Point Seat Belt on Certain 770G, 772G, 773G, 775G, and 777G Off-Highway Trucks {7312, 7327}

Introduction

This special instruction provides the needed parts and the procedure to upgrade the seat belt.

To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following:

Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.

Lower the work tool to the ground and engage the parking brake.

Stop the engine and remove the key.

Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock.

  1. Remove and discard the seat belt buckle and mounting hardware.

  2. Remove and discard the seat belt retractor and mounting hardware.

  3. Move the seat all the way to the rearward position and remove and discard the rear retractor and mounting hardware.

  4. Remove the headrest.

  5. Remove the headrest guides by turning them ¼ rotation clockwise (90 degrees rotation clockwise) and pulling them out.

  6. Remove the belt group and hardware.

  7. Remove and retain the seat back and hardware.

  8. Remove the bracket and bolster from the rear of the seat.

  1. Secure the retractors of the seat belt group (1) to the top of the slide plate with the supplied hardware.

  2. Remove and discard the two plugs to assembly the bolts through the seat back.

  3. Secure the guides of seat belt group (1) to the rear top of the seat back with the supplied hardware.

    Note: The bolts are grade 5 and 7/16-20.

  4. Secure the seat cushion to the seat back assembly with the existing hardware.

  5. Install the existing head rest guides by installing them in the cushion and turning them ¼ rotation counter-clockwise (90 degrees rotation counter-clockwise).

  6. Install spacer (2) and install the existing headrest assembly.

  7. Install the left hand and right-hand seat belt bases of the seat group (1) with the supplied hardware.

    Note: The bolts are grade 5 and 7/16-20.

  8. Replace the existing Operation and Maintenance Manual with one from Table 3. Select the language that corresponds to the language spoken in the location that the truck is operating in.
