Steering Accumulator

Usage:

794 AC MN5

Illustration 1g03675598

The five steering accumulators are mounted together on the left-hand side of the frame near the hydraulic tank.

The accumulators provide the source of pressurized oil volume for the steering system and are replenished by the steering pump as the accumulator pressure drops below the pump compensator control pressure. The accumulators also allow the steering system to maintain a more constant pressure by absorbing high or low-pressure surges and provide supplemental steering.

Note: Steering accumulators remain charged when the cab key start switch is in the ON position. Discharge hydraulic pressure from the steering accumulators before inspection or maintenance. Discharge the hydraulic pressure by switching off the cab key start switch before turning off the battery disconnect switch. The shift control lever must also be in the PARK position.
