Service Magazine SEPD1667, 19 September 2013, "New Power Train Software is Now Used On Certain K Series Motor Graders". Disregard the information in the article that is listed above. Refer to the information in the following article.

Description of Change: New power train software is now used on certain K Series Motor Graders that are equipped with the electronically controlled ECPC Transmission and the Electronic Control Module (A4:M3) used for transmission control. Verify that the Transmission ECM part number that is listed in Table 1 is installed on the machine before flashing the new power train software.

Adaptable To: The new 442-5216 Power Train Software Gp replaces the 439-7485 Power Train Software Gp. The new Power Train Software Gp is compatible with the following engine software groups:

  • 12K - 437-2255 Engine Ratings Electronic Software Gp

  • 120K - 437-2256 Engine Ratings Electronic Software Gp

  • 120K Series 2 - 441-5016 Engine Ratings Electronic Software Gp

  • 140K/160K - 437-2258 Engine Ratings Electronic Software Gp

The new power train software group contains the following improvements:

  1. An improvement to the activation logic for the E627 (Parking Brake Applied With Machine In Motion) event in order to minimize activations and logging of the event. This event was activated when the parking brake is engaged before the machine has come to a full stop. The ECM will use the new activation logic as follows:

    • When the parking brake is applied and the machine is stopped or the travel speed is less than 8 km/h (4.97 mph), the E627 event will not be activated

    • An E627-2 (level 2) event will be activated when the parking brake is applied and machine speed is greater than 8 km/h (4.97 mph), but less than 13 km/h (8.07 mph) for more than 500 ms

    • An E627-3 (level 3) event will be activated when the parking brake is applied and machine speed is greater than 13 km/h (8.07mph) for more than 150 ms

  1. An improvement to the 1F to 2F Engine Overspeed feature that will shift the transmission to the next higher gear when an engine overspeed condition exists. The ECM will now monitor actual engine speed in addition to the transmission output speed.

  1. An improvement to address a condition in the inching pedal operational logic that could prevent machine travel when the inching pedal is released after a forward directional shift.

  1. Improvement to parameters for the Transmission Clutch Fill Calibration in order to minimize the occurrence of transmission clutch fill errors. The ECM will now allow a wider range of engine speed parameters and a wider range of transmission oil temperatures for successful completion of the calibration.
A part number for transmission control is listed in the Table 1:
