Installation Of Replacement Drive Sleeve For Marine Transmission Oil Pump{3310}

Usage:

7211 (66X1-up) 7221 (98X1-up) 7231 (17W1-up) 7241 (39E1-up) 7251 (74E1461-up) 7261 (89B114-up)*

A replacement drive sleeve for the oil pump can now be installed on the oil pump drive shaft of the marine transmission. See the chart for the replacement sleeve and pin needed according to marine transmission model and serial number.

Sleeve Installation

Remove the transmission oil pump. It will also be necessary, according to transmission model, to remove either the transmission oil manifold, or the housing at the end of the pump drive shaft. See the Service Manual for procedure.

NOTE: It will be necessary to drill and ream a dowel hole through the new sleeve before installation. Be careful and do not let any metal particles get inside the transmission during the drilling and reaming procedure.

NOTICE

Always disconnect the starting system and shut off the fuel supply to the engine before doing this procedure.

7211 or 7221 Marine Transmission

(1) Remove the original dowel pin and sleeve from shaft assembly (1). Install new 3N9174 Sleeve (2) all the way in shaft assembly (1) as shown.

(2) Use the dimension shown as a reference, the original dowel pin hole (A) as a pilot (guide), and drill a .220"Ø (5.6Ø) hole through both sides of sleeve (2). After the hole is drilled, use a reamer to make the hole in the sleeve larger, to .2427"Ø ± .0005" (6.165Ø ± 0.013).

(3) Install the new 5N1752 Dowel Pin in hole (A) to fasten sleeve (2) to shaft (1). Install all parts that were removed; see the Service Manual for procedure. Connect the starting system and turn on the fuel supply.

7231 or 7241 Marine Transmission

(1) Remove the original dowel pin and sleeve from shaft assembly (1). Install new 1N9280 Sleeve (2) all the way in shaft assembly (1) as shown.

(2) Use the original dowel pin hole (A) as a pilot (guide) and drill a .290"Ø (7.4Ø) hole through both sides of sleeve (2). After the hole is drilled, use a reamer to make the hole in the sleeve larger, to .3052"Ø ± .0003" (7.75Ø ± .008).

(3) Install the new 2N6272 Dowel Pin in hole (A) to fasten sleeve (2) to shaft (1). Install all parts that were removed; see the Service Manual for procedure. Connect the starting system and turn on the fuel supply.

7251 or 7261 Marine Transmission

(1) Remove the original dowel pin and pump drive sleeve from the end of the pump drive shaft assembly.

(2) On the new 7L5646 Sleeve (1), measure the distance shown from face (A) and make a mark (B) at the exact location of the dimension shown. Use the same procedure and make another mark (C) 180° from the location of mark (B). Marks (B) and (C) must be in alignment with each other.

(3) Drill a .290"Ø (7.4Ø) hole at locations (B) and (C). After both holes are drilled, use a reamer to make each hole larger, to a size of .3052"Ø ± .0003" (7.75Ø ± .008).

(4) Install new sleeve (1). Put the drilled holes at locations (B) and (C) in alignment with holes (D) and (E) in shaft assembly (2) and install new dowel pin (3) to fasten sleeve assembly (1) to shaft assembly (2).

(5) Install all parts that were removed; see the Service Manual for procedure. Connect the starting system and turn on the fuel supply.
