Usage:
The 5N7499 and 5N7500 Front Power Take-Off Groups use an external pillow block bearing in place of the former pilot bearing. The pilot bearing is part of the power take-off group but is to be used only for the initial alignment or realignment of the take-off group. Use the procedure shown in this instruction to install and align the 5N7499 and 5N7500 Front Power Take-Off Groups.
(1) Use a minimum of 6.0" (152) angle iron .50" (12.7) thick or a minimum of .50" (12.7) thick steel plate to make fabricated support (1) for the pillow block bearing (typical installation shown above). IMPORTANT: Surface (A) of the support must be below the bottom of pulley (2) in order to remove the power take-off group. Make spacer plates (3) from .50" (12.7) or thicker steel plate as shown. Plates (3) must be flat and free of burrs. Drill two .75"Ø (19.0Ø) holes (B) in plates (3) and in support (1).
(2) Temporarily install pilot bearing (4) in the crankshaft adapter. Install power take-off group (5) on the engine (do not install the key and pulley). Tighten twelve bolts (6) and eight bolts (7) to a torque of 32 ± 5 lb.ft. (45 ± 7 N·m). Put pillow block bearing (8) in position on the end of shaft (9). Use bolts (10) to put support (1) and spacer plates (3) in the correct position under bearing (8). Weld support (1) to the engine's stringers around locations (C). Make sure enough spacer plates (3) are used so gap (X) between the bottom of bearing (8) and the plates is a maximum of .156" (4.0). Use a thickness gauge to measure gap (X). Install shims from the 2H5972 Shim Pack equal in thickness to the measured gap.
(3) Install dial indicator group (11) so the base of the indicator group is on top of support (1) and the tip of the indicator is on the top end of shaft (9) as shown. Put the indicator pointer on zero. Look at the indicator while bolts (10) are slowly tightened to the standard torque. If the indicator pointer moved more than .005" (0.13), install additional shims to get an indicator reading of .005" (0.13) or less. Remove indicator group (11). Remove bearing cap (12) from pillow block bearing (8). Remove power take-off group (5) and pilot bearing (4). Bearing (4) will not be used again. Install the key and pulley (2) on shaft (9). Put the belts over pulley (2), and install power take-off group (5). Install and tighten bolts (6) and (7). Install bearing cap (12).
