Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Raise hood (1) by activating switch (2). Turn battery disconnect switch (3) to the OFF position.

  2. Remove clips (4), bolt (6), and hose (5).

  3. Remove bolts (8). Remove four bolts (9) (two not shown). Remove upper shroud (7).

  4. Disconnect harness assemblies (10).

  6. Disconnect hose assembly (12).

  8. Remove bolts (14) and remove fuel manifold (15).

  9. Remove fuel pressure sensors (20). Remove connectors (17), (18), and filter connector (16).

  10. Loosen cartridge assembly (22) and remove solenoid assembly (19).

  11. Remove nut (25), washer (24), and coil (15).

  12. Remove O-ring seals (21) from cartridge assembly (22).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install fuel manifold (15) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten nut (25) to a torque of 20 ± 2.5 N·m (177 ± 22 lb in).

    2. Tighten cartridge assembly (22) to a torque of 50 ± 5 N·m (37 ± 4 lb ft).

    3. Tighten filter connector (16) to a torque of 30 ± 3 N·m (22 ± 2 lb ft)

    4. Tighten connectors (17) and (18) to a torque of 17 ± 1.5 N·m (150 ± 13 lb in)

    5. Tighten fuel pressure sensor (20) to a torque of 30 ± 3 N·m (22 ± 2 lb ft).
