3400 Industrial And Generator Set Engines Equipped With Folded Core Radiators
This article replaces the article with the same title on Page 10 of the March 8, 1993 issue of Service Magazine.
Occasionally there is a desire to change fan drive pulley ratios. The fan drive pulley groups for the 3400 Industrial and Generator Set Engines offer several pulley ratios for each engine/radiator combination. The proper ratio is selected based on the cooling requirements and fan diameter. The crankshaft pulley that comes as part of the basic engine arrangement is used in six of the fifteen pulley groups that are offered. The other pulley groups use non-standard crankshaft pulleys.
The drive group ratios that use the standard crankshaft pulley do NOT call out the pulley in the group. Therefore, the wrong ratio can occur when changing from a non-standard crankshaft pulley, because non-standard crankshaft pulley might get reused instead of replaced with the standard crankshaft pulley. The charts that follow can help eliminate confusion and errors.
Chart A identifies the Pulley Groups, Fan Drive Ratios, and pulley group components for 3406 Engines. Chart B identifies the Pulley Groups, Fan Drive Ratios, and pulley group components for 3408 and 3412 Engines.
