General Information

The machine is equipped with a hydraulically operated cooling fan. The cooling fan is variable speed. The engine ECM automatically controls the operation of the cooling fan. The fan system shares a common hydraulic tank with the propel system, the steering system, the vibratory system and the sidecutter system. The charge pump provides the oil to operate the fan system.

The fan system portion of this presentation is divided into two sections. The first section shows the location of all electrical and hydraulic components on the machine that are part of the fan system. A brief discussion of each component is provided in this section.

The last section of the fan system explains system operation. Schematics are used in these sections to trace current through the electrical system and hydraulic oil through the hydraulic system.

(2) Hydraulic oil temperature sensor

(3) Engine coolant temperature sensor

(4) Fan solenoid

(5) ATAAC air temperature sensor

(6) Engine ECM

Note: The blue lines in the above illustration indicate an input signal. The red lines indicate an output signal. The red and blue lines indicate two-way communications.

Engine ECM (6) uses input signals from engine coolant temperature sensor (3) .

Machine ECM number one (1) uses input signals from hydraulic oil temperature sensor (2), ATAAC air temperature sensor (5), and engine ECM (6).

Machine ECM number one (1) sends sensor input signal to engine ECM (6). The engine ECM then sends an output signal to fan solenoid (4) in order to control fan speed.
