(1) "B+" terminal

(2) Ground terminal

(3) "R" terminal

  1. Connect a voltmeter between the "B+" terminal (1) and the alternator case ground (2) .

  1. Start the engine and set the throttle to at least 75%.

  1. Connect one end of a jumper wire to the "B+" terminal (1) of the alternator.

  1. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to the "R" terminal (3) of the alternator for two seconds.

  1. If the voltage output rises, the residual magnetism of the rotor has been restored. The alternator is now charging. If the voltage output does not rise, there is an internal problem with the alternator. Replace the alternator or proceed to Systems Operation, "Component Description". Use the descriptions of the components in order to determine the component that has failed. Proceed to the appropriate component test.
