New Piston Pin Retainer Used In 3600 Family Of Engines{1214}

Usage:

Description of Change: A new retainer is used to secure the pin which holds the piston assembly to the rod assembly (see Illustration 1). The design of the new retainer provides for easier assembly and disassembly. The former retainer could restrict rotation of the piston pin in some applications.

Adaptable To: The new 7C1413 Pin Retainer is a direct replacement for the former 7C1848 Piston Pin Retainer which has been canceled. This change is adaptable to all earlier engines.

NOTE: The retainer is designed with one side having a rounded edge (1) with a convex face (3), and the other side having a sharp edge (4) with a concave face (5) (see the chart and Illustration 2). The side with the rounded edge and convex face is stamped or etched with the word "OUT". The CORRECT installation procedure is to install the ring with the sharp edge and concave face toward the piston pin. This will keep the pin from binding. After installation is completed, the piston pin should be rotated by hand to ensure that it is free to turn in the piston.
