Description of Change: New basic turbocharger and cartridge groups are used. The new groups include improved compressor end oil seals and a new thrust bearing with "tapered lands" to provide increased oil film and reduced bearing temperatures. The new groups also include new shaft and wheel assemblies. The new shaft is hollow in the area where it is welded to the turbine wheel. This will reduce heat transferred from the turbine wheel into the turbocharger bearings and seals. The new components will increase the reliability of the new basic turbocharger and cartridge groups.
Adaptable To: Chart A lists the new and former basic turbocharger groups. Chart B lists the new and former cartridge groups. Chart C list the new and former shaft and wheel assemblies (5). The new turbocharger groups, cartridge groups, and shaft and wheel assemblies are direct replacements for the former components, which are canceled. The new 7E0694 Bearing Housing (6) and 7E0693 Thrust Bearing (7) are direct replacements for the former 7C0360 Bearing Housing and 2W1231 Thrust Bearing which are canceled. The illustration shows the location of the new components.

When replacing the former 2W1232 Ring, or 2W1241 Ring, or 2W1349 Insert from the former basic turbocharger or cartridge groups, use the new 7E0692 Repair Kit. The former components are canceled. The components of the repair kit are listed in Chart D. The new components, identified in the chart, are also individually available for parts service.
