Case Drain Flow for Piston Motor (Drum Propel) - Test

Usage:

CP-74B L7B

------ WARNING! ------

Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.

Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

Injury to personnel can result if they are not in the operator's view. Allow only essential personnel near the machine, and make sure the personnel are in the operator's view when testing, to prevent injury. Make sure checks are done in an open area.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

------ WARNING! ------

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a pinhole size leak, can penetrate body tissue, causing serious injury, and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Care must be taken in order to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable container.

  7. Disconnect brake supply hose assembly (5) for the axle brake. This hose assembly is located on the right side of the propel pump. Hand tighten Tool (D) in the fitting of the hose assembly, and then loosen the plug one half turn in order to allow chamber venting. Use Tool (C) in order to cap the port.

  8. Disconnect brake supply hose assembly (6) for the drum brake. Hand tighten Tool (D) in the fitting of the hose assembly, and then loosen the plug one half turn in order to allow chamber venting. Use Tool (C) in order to cap the port.

  10. Connect hose assembly from Tool (B) to the drum motor at case drain port (8) where case drain line (7) was disconnected in Step 9. Connect case drain line (7) to outlet side of Tool (A).

  11. Move engine start switch (4) to the START position. Release the switch when the engine starts.

  12. Operate the engine at low idle for a few minutes. Use throttle control switch (3) in order to operate the engine in high idle.

Note: Two things indicate when the engine is at high idle. First, "High Idle" will appear on the display. Second, the third LED next to throttle control switch (3) will be illuminated.

  13. Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature with Tool (E). Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 38 °C (100 °F).

  14. Use throttle control switch (3) in order to operate the engine in ECO mode.

Note: Two things indicate when the engine is in ECO mode. First, "ECO" will appear on the display. Second, the second LED next to throttle control switch (3) will be illuminated.

  15. Use propel mode switch (10) in order to shift the propel motors into the HIGH SPEED position.

Note: Two things indicate when the propel motors are in the HIGH SPEED position. First, "Propel Mode High" will appear on the display. Second, two LEDs next to propel mode switch (10) will be illuminated.

  16. Use speed control switches (9) in order to set the propel speed to 4 percent.

Note: Two things indicate when the propel speed is set to 4 percent. First, "Speed Control % 4" will appear on the display. Second, one LED next to speed control switches (9) will be illuminated.

  17. Move parking brake switch (2) to the OFF position.

Note: The machine may move slightly during the next two steps.

  18. Move propel lever (1) to the FORWARD range. Check the case drain flow. The flow should be 11.5 to 19 L/min (3 to 5 US gpm).

  19. Move propel lever (1) to the REVERSE range. Check the case drain flow. The flow should be 11.5 to 19 L/min (3 to 5 US gpm).

  20. Move propel lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  21. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  22. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

  23. Remove the tooling from the drum motor, and reconnect case drain line (7).

  24. Remove Tool (D) from the fitting of brake supply hose assembly (5) for the axle brake. Remove Tool (C) from the brake inlet port. Connect brake supply hose assembly (13) to the brake inlet port.
