R3000H Load Haul Dump Hydraulic System Caterpillar

Sequence Valve (Float) - Test and Adjust

Usage:

R3000H RCM

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement. Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.

Connect the steering frame lock between the front and rear frames before working on the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

------ WARNING! ------

Sudden movement or accidental starting of the machine can cause personal injury or death to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following:

Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.

Lower the work tool to the ground and engage the parking brake.

Stop the engine and remove the key.

Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Test Preparation

  1. Move the machine to a hard level surface away from operating machines and away from personnel.

  2. Engage the parking brake. Place wheel blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.

  3. Stop the engine.

  4. Install the steering frame lock. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Frame Lock".

  5. Release the pressure from the hydraulic system. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing & Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".

    (5) Ride control switch

  4. Move lift arm positioner switch (4) to the OFF position. Move ride control switch (5) to the OFF position.

  5. Start the engine.

  6. Use the bucket and lift arms to raise the front of the machine off the ground.

  7. Move the joystick control lever to the FLOAT position. The float sequence valve should open and the machine will lower to the ground.

  8. Record the pressure on the pressure gauge at which the float sequence valve opens. Refer to Table 1 for the correct pressure setting.

Note: If the front of the machine lowers to the ground before the FLOAT position is selected, the float sequence valve pressure setting is too low.

  9. Stop the engine.

  10. Release the pressure from the hydraulic system. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing & Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".

  11. If the pressure setting is incorrect, continue with "Adjustment Procedure".

  12. If the pressure setting is correct, remove Tooling (B) and Tooling (F).

  1. Loosen locknut (1) on float sequence valve (6). Turn adjusting screw (7) clockwise to increase the pressure. Turn adjusting screw (7) counterclockwise to decrease the pressure.

  2. Tighten locknut (1). Refer to Table 2 for the correct tightening torque.

  3. Recheck the pressure setting.
