Note: Assemble Tool (C) as shown above.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.

  1. Connect Tooling (C) to hydraulic tee fitting (10) . Pressurize the parking brake to 100 bar (1450 psi).

    Illustration 3g02538536

  1. Install brake caliper (7) and bolts (6) and two shims (8) . Shims (8) are located between brake caliper (7) and the frame.

Top view of the brake caliper, rotor, and the mount.

  1. Use Tooling (B) to measure distance (X) and distance (Y) .

  1. The measurements are taken from the brake caliper linings (7) to the rotor (9) on both sides of the rotor. Measurements (X) and (Y) must be 1.50 ± 0.50 mm (0.06 ± 0.029 inch). Measurements (X) and (Y) must be equal within 0.20 mm (0.01 inch).

  1. Examples of measurements within specifications.

    1. Measurement (X) equals 1.40 mm (0.055 inch) and measurement (Y) equals 1.60 mm (0.063 inch). Both linings are within 1.50 ± 0.50 mm (0.06 ± 0.029 inch).

    1. Measurement (Y) 1.60 mm (0.063 inch) minus measurement (X) 1.40 mm (0.055 inch) is within 0.20 mm (0.01 inch).

  1. Examples of measurements out of specifications.

    1. Measurement (X) equals 2.05 mm (0.08 inch) and measurement (Y) equals 0.95 mm (0.04 inch). Neither lining is within 1.50 ± 0.50 mm (0.06 ± 0.029 inch) of the rotor.

    1. Measurement (Y) 2.05 mm (0.08 inch) minus measurement (X) 0.95 mm (0.04 inch) is not within 0.20 mm (0.01 inch).

  1. If measurement does not meet specification, remove caliper from machine.

  1. Release pressure from caliper.

    Illustration 5g02537716

  1. Use Tooling (A) to turn each spring retaining cap. On the side with lining too far from rotor, turn spring retaining cap (11) a 1/4 turn clockwise. On the side with lining too close to rotor, turn spring retaining cap (11) a 1/4 turn counterclockwise.

Note: a 1/4 turn will move the brake lining 0.15 mm (0.06 inch). Do not turn either spring retaining cap (11) more than 3/4 turn clockwise or counterclockwise.

  1. Pressurize parking brake to 100 bar (1450 psi) with Tooling (C) .

  1. Install brake caliper (7) and bolts (6) to the machine.

  1. Repeat Step 3 through Step 11 until the correct measurements are obtained.

    Illustration 7g02538679

  1. Connect service brake hose assembly (5) to brake caliper (7) . Connect the parking brake hose assembly to brake caliper (7) , not shown in illustration 7.

  1. Purge the air from brake caliper (7) by opening purge valves (12) , as required.

    Illustration 8g01427360

  1. Install guard (3) and bolts (4) .

    Illustration 9g01427358

  1. Connect hose assemblies (2) to gear pump (1) .

End By: Install the auxiliary pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Auxiliary Pump - Install".
