Introduction

The problem that is identified below has a known permanent solution. Use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

When any of the transmission solenoids fail on any of the Backhoe Loader transmissions a certain process must be followed in order to eliminate future and repeat failures of the transmission solenoids.

Solution

Before replacing any failed solenoids, the transmission oil must be changed. Follow the rework procedure below. The following procedure must be performed before replacing any failed solenoids.

  1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel.

  1. Place the transmission FORWARD/REVERSE control for the shuttle into the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Activate the switch for the neutral lock.

  1. Permit only one operator on the machine at each time. You should keep all personnel away from the machine or you should keep all personnel in the view of the operator.

  1. Activate the parking brake.

  1. Ground all implements. This includes the loader, the backhoe and stabilizers.

  1. Make sure that all hydraulic pressure is released before any component is adjusted in any way.

  1. Complete an oil change for the transmission. Refer to Operation and Maintenance, "Transmission Oil - Change". Perform all steps of this procedure. The procedure will include replacing the filter 211-1026 Oil Filter . Remove the transmission drain plug. Clean the transmission drain plug and install the transmission drain plug. Inspect the screen and the drain plug for metallic debris.

  1. Replace the failed solenoid valve group when Step 8 has been completed. Engage each solenoid valve 10 times. The valves will be engaged in order to make sure that the valves are properly operating. The new filter will ensure that the filter is not plugged from any debris that was trapped during flushing.
