Note: Assemble the bearing adjusters (8) so that the bearing adjusters must be flush with the spindle assembly (18) . Tighten the bolts (7) and turn the spindle assembly until the resistance is felt.
(9) As required, use the following shim in order to level the bearing adjusters (8) with the top surface of the spindle assembly (18) :
-
1K-7019 Shim
- Thickness of one shim ... 0.51 mm (0.020 inch)
(10) Apply 4C-4032 Bearing Mount Compound to the bearing retainers of four bearing assemblies.
(11) As required, use the following shim in order to center the spindle assembly (18) into the bogie frame assembly (20) :
-
1K-7019 Shim
- Thickness of one shim ... 0.51 mm (0.020 inch)
(12) Torque for two nuts ... 609 ± 75 N·m (449 ± 55 lb ft)
(13) Apply 8T-9014 Silicone Sealant around the hub cap in order to fill the gap from the chamfer to the mating surface of the wheel (19) .
(14) Use the following procedure to tighten the nut:
- Tighten the nut to 280 ± 10 N·m (207 ± 7 lb ft) when you turn the hub.
- Loosen the nut by one turn.
- Again, tighten the nut to 75 ± 5 N·m (55 ± 4 lb ft) when you turn the hub.
- Continue to tighten the nut until you can insert the cotter pin through the shaft and the nut.
(15) Torque for two nuts ... 644 ± 50 N·m (475 ± 37 lb ft)
Note: Continue to tighten the nuts (15) until two cotter pins can be inserted through two bolts and two nuts.
Note: Pack two bearing cones (16) and two bearing cups (17) with medium pressure lithium grease.
(21) Torque for the dome lug nuts on later models ... 160 ± 30 N·m (118 ± 22 lb ft)
Note: Torque for the flat lug nuts on earlier models 140 ± 25 N·m (103 ± 18 lb ft).
(22) Apply 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant to five grease fittings.
