Introduction

The face width on other brand machines is often different from Cat products. The Center lock pin grabber coupler can connect to many buckets and tools from many other manufacturers. When the width of the tool is wider than the coupler, use spacers to keep the work tool centered on the coupler.

The Center Lock Clamping Spacer system consists of two solid steel spacers and two locking rings which fit on the front pin. Once the spacers are set, the spacers will stay locked in place. Frequent coupling and uncoupling of the work tools are not a problem with the spacers solid steel construction. The Center Lock Clamping Spacers system will close face width gaps with ease.

This special instruction covers the spare pins and center lock clamping spacers for the following: 172-8472 172-8473 172-8444 268-4450 268-5606 246-8124 241-9301 216-7215 Coupler Pin Groups and 343-4530 343-4531 343-4532 343-4533 343-4534 343-4535 351-9387 351-9073 Shim Packs . The spacers are for 311 through 385 B through D series Hydraulic Excavators.

Personal injury or death can result from sudden work tool movement. Sudden movement of the work tool can cause injury to persons near the work tool. To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the work tool is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the work tool.

Attach a "Do Not Operate" warning tag to the start switch before you service or repair the equipment. These warning tags (Special Instruction, SEHS7332) are available from your Caterpillar dealer.

Spare Pins

The standard width coupler is shipped without pins. Refer to Table 1 for spare pins if more pins are required. Each part number includes two spare pins and hardware for each additional work tool that is used with the hydraulic pin grabber quick coupler.

Installation of the Spacer Pins and Center Lock Clamping Spacers

1. Slide the pin out of the way in order to allow one spacer and one locking ring onto the pin.

2. Slide the pin into the hinge plate.

3. Slide the spacers against the inside of the hinge plate.

4. If the bucket is equipped with an adjuster, adjust out the adjuster all of the way in order to allow for clearance of the spacers.

5. Verify that the clearance is a minimum of 10 mm (0.39 inch) on each side.
