Note: Plug and cap all open ports and tube assemblies.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

  1. Disconnect harness assemblies (1) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove fuel filter (7). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Secondary Filter - Replace".

  1. Disconnect harness assemblies (2) and (3). Disconnect hose assemblies (4) .

  1. Remove bolts (6). Remove fuel filter base (5) .

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before installation, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision component. Keep components covered and protected at all times.

  1. Position fuel filter base (5). Install bolts (6) .

  1. Connect hose assemblies (4). Connect harness assemblies (3) and (2) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) in order to install fuel filter (7). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Secondary Filter - Replace".

  1. Connect harness assemblies (1) .
