Piston Pump (Brake, Hydraulic Fan) High Pressure Stall - Test and Adjust

Usage:

12M B92

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result if the machine moves while testing.

If the machine begins to move during test, reduce the engine speed immediately and engage the parking brake.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the brake system.

Machine Preparation

  1. Run the machine in order to reach the normal operating temperature.

  1. Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel. Place the transmission direction control switch in the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake. Lower the work tools to the ground. Stop the engine and put chocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.

  1. Remove the pressure from the brake system by pumping the service brake pedal at a rate of one second ON and one second OFF. Continue to pump the brakes until a minimum of 110 applications have been completed. Do not assume that the pressure is removed from the circuit if the brake pedal has no resistance.

  1. Remove the grill.

  1. Remove hydraulic oil inlet line (1) from adapter (2) on the fan motor. Add Tooling (F) to the supply hose.

  1. Remove adapter (2) from the fan motor. Add Tooling (G) to the motor.

The manifold is located on the right side of the machine and the manifold is viewed through the engine compartment.

    (3) Test port

    (4) Wire connector

    (5) Solenoid

  1. Remove the cap from test port (3) . Install Tooling (B) onto test port (3) .

  1. Disconnect wire connector (4) from fan speed solenoid (5) .

Test Procedure

  1. Start the engine. Set the engine speed to high idle.

  1. Check the pressure on the gauge. The high-pressure cutoff setting should be 21500 ± 200 kPa (3120 ± 30 psi).

If the high-pressure cutoff setting is incorrect, then the pressure compensator must be adjusted. Adjust the pressure compensator by performing Step 1.

Adjustment Procedure

    (6) Cap

    (7) Locknut

  1. Perform the following operations in order to adjust the high-pressure cutoff setting:

    1. Remove cap (6) and loosen locknut (7) .

    1. Turn the adjustment screw clockwise in order to increase the high-pressure cutoff setting.

Turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise in order to decrease the high-pressure cutoff setting.

    1. Tighten locknut (7) and reinstall cap (6) . Then perform Step 1 to see if the cutoff pressure is correct. Perform Steps 1 through 1.c until the high-pressure cutoff setting is correct.

  1. Remove Tooling (F) and install the adapter (2) in the fan motor.

  1. Remove Tooling (G) and connect the hydraulic oil inlet line to the adapter (2) on the fan motor.

  1. Install the grill.

  1. Connect wire connector (4) to fan speed solenoid (5) .
