Description of Change: In order to further improve the life of the spline joint between the steering column shaft and the pump for HMU steering, a lubrication instruction has been added to the Maintenance Section of the Medium Wheel Loader Operation and Maintenance Manuals (OMM). A rubber boot has also been added to the joint on 950 through 972 Wheel Loaders and IT62 Integrated Toolcarriers in order to protect against debris.

Adaptable To: The maintenance interval for the HMU steering is now specified in the OMM for every 3000 hours. The instruction recommends the use of a multipurpose lithium grease (NLGI Grade 2) such as 1P-0808 Multipurpose Grease. Apply 0.4 g (0.014 oz) of the grease to the spline joint (2) .

291-5392 Boot (1) is now available for 950 through 972 Wheel Loaders and the IT62 Integrated Toolcarriers. Refer to Illustration 1.

The addition of the 291-5392 Boot is effective with the following machines.
