Start By:

  1. Release the system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".
  2. Remove the tilt cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tilt Cylinder - Remove and Install".
  3. Remove the quick coupler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Quick Coupler - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Install Tooling (A) under boom (1) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the rod end of boom cylinder (2). The weight of the end of boom cylinder (2) is approximately 41 kg (90 lb). Remove pin assembly (3) .

  1. Use the suitable lifting device in order to place boom cylinder (2) onto suitable cribbing.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the rod end of compensating cylinder (4). The weight of compensating cylinder (4) is approximately 28 kg (60 lb). Remove pin assembly (5) .

  1. Use the suitable lifting device in order to place compensating cylinder (4) onto suitable cribbing.

  1. Cut cable straps (6) .

  1. Remove bolts (8) and place light assembly (7) to the side. Repeat for the other side.

  1. Remove nuts (9) and disconnect hose assemblies (10) from boom (1) .

  1. Attach Tooling (B), Tooling (F) and a suitable lifting device to boom (1). The weight of boom (1) is approximately 455 kg (1000 lb). Use Tooling (C) in order to remove retaining ring (11). Remove pin assembly (12) .

  1. Install pin assembly (13) that was used to retain the linkage for the quick coupler that was previously removed. Use the suitable lifting device and a suitable towing device in order to extend boom (1). Remove the suitable lifting device.

  1. Install Tooling (A) and Tooling (D) under boom (1) .

  1. Install Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to boom (1). The weight of boom (1) is approximately 500 kg (1100 lb).

  1. Remove stops (14). Use the suitable lifting device in order to remove boom (1) .

  1. Use Tooling (E) in order to remove bearings (15) and (16) .

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (17) .

  1. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to the rear section of boom (18). The weight of boom (1) is approximately 500 kg (1100 lb).

  1. Remove bolts (19) and stop (20) .

  1. Use Tooling (G) in order to remove pin (21) .

  1. Repeat the previous two steps for the other side.

  1. Remove the rear portion of boom (18) .
