Rotary Position Sensor (Brake Pedal) - Test and Adjust
Note: The machine is equipped with the following: one position sensor for the left brake pedal and one position sensor for the right brake pedal. Both sensors should be tested. Use the same test procedure for both of the sensors.

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement. Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine. |

- Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.
- Move propulsion lever (2) to the NEUTRAL position.

- Rotate speed dial (3) to the MINIMUM position.
- Move parking brake switch (4) to the ON position.
- Move screed lower switch (6) to the DOWN position. Lower the screed to the ground.
- Move throttle control switch (5) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.
- After the engine reaches low idle, move engine start switch (1) to the OFF position.
- Move operator station selector switch (7) to the RIGHT position.
Note: Move operator station selector switch (7) to the LEFT position if the position sensor for the left brake pedal is being tested.

- Move key switch (8) to the OFF position.
- Open the access panel of the center console.
- Connect the ground clip of Tool (A) to one of the ground posts.
- Insert the red spoon from Tool (B) into terminal 2 (370-BU) that is on the "J1" connector (9). Connect the red spoon to Tool (A) .

- Set Tool (A) to read "duty cycle".
- Move key switch (8) to the ON position.
- The value on Tool (A) should be 85 ± 35 percent. If the value is outside the specified range, go to Step 21.
- Slowly depress the brake pedal and steadily depress the brake pedal (10) against the stop. Observe the reading on Tool (A). The value should steadily decrease as the pedal is moved in the downward position. The value should not stop decreasing until the pedal reaches the stop. When the pedal is against the stop, the value on Tool (A) should be 35 ± 3 percent.

- Slowly release the brake pedal and steadily release the brake pedal (10). Observe the reading on Tool (A). The value should steadily increase as the pedal is moved in the upward position. The value should not stop increasing until the pedal reaches the stop.
- Move key switch (8) to the OFF position.
- Remove the tooling.
- If the readings on Tool (A) are within the specified ranges, the sensor is operating correctly. Go to the next step if the following actions occur. The readings on Tool (A) do not steadily change through the full range of brake pedal (1) .The readings are not within the specified range.
- Troubleshoot the electrical circuit for the brake pedal sensor. Refer toTroubleshooting Manual, KENR5036, "Electrical and Hydraulic Systems".
