液压油流入进口 (2)，经过阀 (7) 中心的节流孔，流入弹簧 (9) 的腔室。 弹簧腔室中的机油接触阀 (4)。 阀座 (3) 无法移动，阀座 (3) 压装到阀体中。
先导回路中的油压小于安全阀设定值时，弹簧 (5) 作用在阀 (4) 上的弹力保持安全阀闭合。
如果进口 (2) 中的高压油超过安全阀设定值，高压油将克服弹簧 (5) 的弹力。 从而使阀 (4) 打开。 弹簧 (9) 腔室中的机油流过阀座 (3) 中的孔。 随后，机油经过油道 (8) 流向液压油箱。
阀 (4) 打开时，弹簧 (9) 腔室中的油压下降。 进口 (2) 处的油压使阀 (7) 打开。 此后机油可经出口 (6) 流回液压油箱。
阀 (7) 保持打开，直到阀 (4) 闭合。 进口 (2) 处的压力下降至低于安全阀压力设定值时，阀 (4) 将闭合。
