Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement. Personnel can be injured during the steering check. To help prevent possible personal injury, keep all personnel away from the machine or in clear view of the operator when the machine is in operation during steering checks. |
Before any operational checks are performed, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" and Testing and Adjusting, "Visual Inspection".
Steering Time
Note: Measuring the steering time will determine if there is a reason to check the priority valve or the metering pump.
- Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel.
- Place the transmission control switch (1) in the NEUTRAL position.

- Raise the work tool slightly off the ground.
- Run the engine at low idle.
- Turn the steering wheel clockwise until stop (3) contacts stop pad (4) .

- Turn the steering wheel counterclockwise. Record the time for a full turn from one stop to the other stop.
- Repeat this procedure several times in each direction in order to obtain an average time. The time for a full turn from one stop to the other stop should be between 2 to 3.5 seconds. If the time is higher, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Steering System Troubleshooting".
Note: Turn the steering wheel at a speed of 60 rpm. This is approximately 1 full turn of the steering wheel per second.
Steering Turns
Note: Measuring the steering turns will determine if there is a reason to check the priority valve or the metering pump.
- Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel.
- Place the direction control switch (1) in the NEUTRAL position.

- Turn the steering wheel counterclockwise. Record the number of turns by the steering wheel from one stop to the other stop.
- Repeat this procedure several times in each direction in order to obtain an average number of turns. The number of turns by the steering wheel from one stop to the other stop is 3.75 turns. If the number of turns is higher, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Steering System Troubleshooting".
