Battery Voltage

This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the system voltage as below 23.0 DCV.

The possible causes of this diagnostic code are:

  • A charging system component is malfunctioning.

  • The machine harness wiring is malfunctioning.

  • The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.

System Response:

The results of this diagnostic code are:

  • Conveyor diagnostic code lamp on the machine operator's station will be ON.

Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code CID 060 FMI F04 for the battery system voltage is on hold and that the diagnostic code present indicator on the ECM display is ON.

Test Step 1. Check Battery Voltage

  1. Start the engine and run the engine at high idle for several minutes.

  1. Measure the battery voltage at the battery posts.

Expected Result:

The measured battery voltage is greater than 23.0 DCV.

Results:

  • OK - The measured battery voltage is greater than 23.0 DCV. Proceed to Test Step 2.

  • NOT OK - The measured battery voltage is less than 23.0 DCV.

Repair: The charging system is not charging correctly. Check and repair the charging system.

    Stop.

Test Step 2. Check System Voltage At ECM

The engine must still be running at high idle.

  1. Do not disconnect the machine harness from the ECM. At the ECM connector, prepare to make a voltage measurement using the 7X-1710 Cable Probe Group.

  1. At the machine harness for the ECM, probe the rear of the connector. Measure the +V voltage (DCV) between connector contact 1 ( wire P127-YL) and connector ground contact 2 ( wire P200-BK).

Expected Result:

The measured voltage is more than 23.0 DCV.

Results:

  • OK - The measured voltage is more than 23.0 DCV. Proceed to Test Step 3.

  • NOT OK - The measured voltage is less than 23.0 DCV.

Repair: The machine harness is not correct. Repair or replace the machine harness.

    Stop.

Test Step 3. Check If Diagnostic Code Remains

The engine is OFF.

  1. Remove the connectors from the ECM. Inspect and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.

  1. Reconnect all harness connectors.

  1. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

  1. Enter service mode 1 on the ECM three digit display. Clear all inactive diagnostic codes.

  1. Operate the machine.

  1. Check to see if the CID 060 FMI F04 diagnostic code for the battery voltage is present (diagnostic code present indicator ON).

Expected Result:

The CID 060 FMI F04 diagnostic code for the battery voltage is not present.

Results:

  • OK - The CID 060 FMI F04 diagnostic code for the battery voltage is not present. The machine harness and the ECM are operating properly.

Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation.

    Stop.

  • NOT OK - The CID 060 FMI F04 diagnostic code for the battery voltage is still present.

Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Refer to the Electrical System Schematic for this machine and check all involved wiring harness connectors and wiring. Ensure that the connector contacts are clean and in good condition. Ensure that all machine harness wiring is intact and in good condition. If the cause of this error code is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace" in this manual.

    Stop.
