Boom - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the stick. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick - Remove and Install".

  2. Remove the stick cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick Cylinder - Remove".

  3. Remove the boom cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Boom Cylinder - Remove".

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (3) from the backhoe valve.

  2. Remove the nuts and bolts (1).

  3. Remove hose clamp (2).

  4. Attach a suitable lifting device to boom (4).

  5. Install Tooling (A) under boom (4).

  6. Remove nuts (5) and bolts (6).

  7. Remove pins (7).

  8. Remove boom (4). The weight of boom (4) is approximately 499 kg (1100 lb).

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Place boom (4) in position on the machine. The weight of boom (4) is approximately 499 kg (1100 lb).

  2. Use Tooling (A) to support boom (4).

  3. Install pins (7).

  4. Install bolts (6) and nuts (5).

  5. Connect hose assemblies (3) to the backhoe valve.

  6. Install the hose clamp (2), the nuts and bolts (1).

End By:

  1. Install the boom cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Boom Cylinder - Install".

  2. Install the stick. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick - Remove and Install".

  3. Install the stick cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick Cylinder - Install".
