Expected Battery Life for the Computer Aided Earthmoving Systems (CAES) Display Batteries and the Minestar (Tope) Display Batteries {1401}

Usage:

- 2TZ
Machine Control & Guidance Products:
CAES ULTRA (S/N: 2TZ1-UP)

The 194-8006 Display Group and the 167-8722 Display Group (Electronic) are used for Computer Aided Earthmoving Systems (CAES) and Minestar (Tope). The displays use an internal Uninterrupted Power Source (UPS) to ensure proper shutdowns when power is removed. Each UPS contains batteries that have a shelf life of ten years. The actual life of these batteries depends on various factors such as the number of charge/discharge cycles, temperature, humidity and load. The batteries may need to be replaced every two years since that is the life expectancy of the batteries. Depending on your application, you may experience a longer or shorter battery life. At the point that the useful life of the batteries have been reached, the shutdown process may not complete before the UPS shuts down. Any files that are being written to the Flash Memory Card can be corrupted.

To determine if the batteries need to be replaced, shut OFF the display with the power switch. If the display does not dim before shutting off, the UPS batteries need to be replaced.

If the batteries need to be replaced and the display is outside of the warranty period, then contact the Trimble Support Center at (408) 481-8000 to obtain a quote for the cost of the replacement.

If the batteries need to be replaced and the display is still under warranty, the entire display must be replaced through the standard Caterpillar parts warranty process.
