There are several specific safety messages on your machine. The exact location of the hazard and description of the hazard are reviewed in this section. Take the time in order to become familiar with these safety messages.

You must be able to read all safety messages. Clean the safety messages in order to read the words. Clean the safety messages in order to see the pictures. Do not use solvent, gasoline, etc.

Replace any damaged safety messages or missing safety messages. Replace any safety messages that cannot be read. If a safety message is on a part that has been replaced, a new safety message must be installed on the replacement part. See your dealer for a new film.

Track Tension (3)

This warning label is located inside the compartment access doors and behind the hoppers.

The track tension circuits contain trapped oil under pressure. The removal of any fittings before releasing the trapped oil pressure can result in personal injury. To prevent possible injury, refer to the Service Manual procedures for releasing track tension trapped oil pressure before removal of any fittings in the track tension circuits.


Hot Coolant Under Pressure (4)

This warning label is located on top of the radiator near the filler cap.

Pressurized System: Hot coolant can cause serious burns. To open the cooling system filler cap, stop the engine and wait until the cooling system components are cool. Loosen the cooling system pressure cap slowly in order to relieve the pressure.


Shock Hazard (5)

This safety message is located near the exhaust stack on the operator's platform.

This machine is equipped with a Caterpillar Product Link communication device. When electric detonators are used, this communication device should be deactivated within 12 m (40 ft) of a blast site for satellite-based systems and within 3 m (10 ft) of a blast site for cellular based systems, or within the distance mandated under applicable legal requirements. Failure to do so could cause interference with blasting operations and result in serious injury or death.

In cases where the type of Product Link module cannot be identified, Caterpillar recommends that the device be disabled no less than 12 m (40 ft) from the blast perimeter.


Improper Connection Of Jump Start Cable (7)

This warning label is located inside the battery compartment on the machine.

Improper jumper cable connections can cause an explosion resulting in personal injury. Batteries can be located in separate compartments. When using jumper cable always connect positive (+) cable to positive (+) terminal of battery connected to starter solenoid and negative (−) cable from external source to starter negative (−) terminal. (If not equipped with starter negative terminal, connect to engine block.)


Working Underneath Hoppers (8)

This warning label is located on each side of the machine at the rear of the hopper wings.

Working underneath unsecured, raised hoppers could cause personal injury. Use eyes in the hoppers to secure the hoppers together in the FULLY RAISED position while working underneath the hoppers.


No Ether In Air Inlet (9)

This warning label is located on the air cleaner housing.

If equipped with an air inlet heater (AIH) for cold weather starting, do not use aerosal types of starting aids such as ether. Such use could result in an explosion and personal injury.


Mounting The Machine (10)

This warning label is located on each side of the machine on the tow arm.

Mounting the machine from the side could cause personal injury. Use the ladder provided on the screed at the rear of the machine to mount the machine.
