- Remove the accumulator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Brake Accumulator (Service) - Remove".
Note: This procedure can be used for the service brake accumulator or the parking brake accumulator.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
The accumulator is filled with dry nitrogen. Sudden release of nitrogen pressure can cause personal injury. To avoid personal injury, release the nitrogen pressure from the accumulator before disassembly. |
- Discharge the nitrogen pressure from the accumulator. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS5464, "Accumulator Discharging and Charging Procedures" for the correct procedure to release the nitrogen from the accumulator.
