Start By:

  1. Connect steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the cooling system into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

  2. Disconnect two harness assemblies (4). Disconnect hose assembly (3). Disconnect hose assemblies (2) and (1). .

  3. Remove nut (6) and disconnect ground strap (5) from the left rear of the cab.

  4. Disconnect hoses (7) from the bottom of the cab.

  5. Remove pin (8). Loosen nut (10) and remove parking brake cable (9).

  6. Remove bolts (11) that hold the steering link assembly and the steering lever to the steering shaft. Place the steering link assembly out of the way. Remove the two bolts that hold brake valve (12) to the bottom of the cab.

  7. Attach a suitable lifting device with Tooling (A) to cab (13), as shown. The weight of cab (13) is approximately 1225 kg (2700 lb).

  8. Remove bolts (14) and remove the cab.
