A design change was made in order to use larger bearings on the idler gear in the output transfer groups. Older machines can use the larger bearings by either modifying certain parts or replacing certain parts. The larger bearings have increased capacity that improves bearing life. Previous publications have included inaccurate information or confusing information.
The Service Magazine, SEBD1230, "Output Transfer Gear Case Bearings Have More Capacity" provides a list of parts that are required to convert to larger bearings. The Special Instruction, SMHS7414, "Installation Of 3T7389 Transfer Gear Case Assembly, 6P8830 Transmission Case Assembly Or 7G7139 Manifold Assembly" provides the information regarding modifications to the gear case for use with the larger bearings. The 3T-9050 Transfer Gear that is referenced in Service Magazine, SEBD1230, "Output Transfer Gear Case Bearings Have More Capacity" has been cancelled and replaced with the 102-4562 Gear. 102-4562 Gear uses enhanced material and processing techniques to improve the gear life over the 3T-9050 Transfer Gear. The 102-4562 Gear requires no modifications for use with the larger bearings. If using the original 3P-3356 Transfer Gear is desired, follow the instructions in the Special Instruction, SEHS8911, "Modification Of Gear For Use In The Output Transfer Case and Gear Group " for modifications of the 3P-3356 Transfer Gear in order to use the larger bearings. Previous versions of the Special Instruction, SEHS8911, "Modification Of Gear For Use In The Output Transfer Case and Gear Group " may include inaccurate information or confusing information. Please refer to the latest version Special Instruction, SEHS8911-02, "Modification Of Gear For Use In The Output Transfer Case and Gear Group ".
