There are several specific safety signs on your machine. The exact location of the safety signs and the description of the hazard are reviewed in this section. Please take the time in order to become familiar with the safety signs.

Make sure that all of the warning signs are legible. Clean the warning signs or replace the warning signs if you cannot read the words. Replace the illustrations if the illustrations are not legible. When you clean the warning signs, use a cloth, water and soap. Do not use solvent, gasoline, or other harsh chemicals to clean the safety signs. Solvents, gasoline, or harsh chemicals could loosen the adhesive that secures the warning sign. Loose adhesive will allow the warning sign to fall.

Replace any safety sign that is damaged, or missing. If a safety sign is attached to a part that is replaced, install a safety sign on the replacement part. Any Caterpillar dealer can provide new safety signs.

This warning sign is located on the ROPS. The safety sign is located on machines that are not equipped with a cab.

Rops/Fops Structure (1)

This warning sign is located on the ROPS.

------ WARNING! ------

Structural damage, an overturn, modification, alteration, or improper repair can impair this structure's protection capability thereby voiding this certification. Do not weld on or drill holes in the structure. Consult a Caterpillar dealer to determine this structure's limitations without voiding its certification.

Do Not Operate (2)

This warning label is located on the instrument panel.

Illustration 3g00901333

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manual.

Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death.

Contact any Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.

Seat Belt (3)

This safety message is located on the right side post for the cab or the ROPS/FOPS guard.

Illustration 4g00931188

------ WARNING! ------

A seat belt should be worn at all times during machine operation to prevent serious injury or death in the event of an accident or machine overturn. Failure to wear a seat belt during machine operation may result in serious injury or death.

No Clearance and Steering Frame Lock Pins (4)

This warning label is located on the steer pivot on both sides of the yoke.

Illustration 5g00038790

------ WARNING! ------

No clearance for a man in this area when the machine turns. Severe injury or death from crushing could occur.

Install the steering frame lock pin into the locked position before lifting the machine, transporting the machine on another vehicle, or performing service near the center of the machine.

Disengage the steering lock pin from articulation joint and store in retainer before resuming operation or the machine will not steer.

Pressurized System (5)

This warning label is located above the cooling system pressure cap.

Illustration 6g00817291

------ WARNING! ------

Pressurized system: Hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.

No Ether (6)

This warning label is located behind the engine air filter service indicator.

Illustration 7g00640926

------ WARNING! ------

If equipped with an air inlet heater (AIH) for cold weather starting, do not use aerosal types of starting aids such as ether. Such use could result in an explosion and personal injury.

Improper Connections for Jump Start Cables (7)

This warning label is located in front of the radiator on the cover above the battery compartment.

Illustration 8g00038786

------ WARNING! ------

Improper jump start cable connections can cause an explosion resulting in personal injury.

Batteries may be located in separate compartments. When using jump start cables, always connect the positive (+) to the positive (+) terminal of the battery that is connected to the starter solenoid and the negative (−) cable from the source to the negative (−) terminal of the starter. (If the machine is not equipped with a starter negative terminal, connect the negative (−) cable to the engine block.) Follow the procedure in the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
