Start By:

  1. Remove the control valve for the work tool. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Control Valve (Work Tool) - Remove".
  2. Remove the gear pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump - Remove".
  3. Remove the solenoid valve and mounting (parking brake). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Solenoid Valve and Mounting (Parking Brake) - Remove and Install".

Note: SERVICE DATA: TOOLING (ZZ) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.

Turn the disconnect switch OFF when draining and/or removing any fuel system components.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the fuel into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the fuel tank is approximately 95 L (25 US gal).

  1. Remove nut (1) .

  1. Remove bolts (3) and position console assembly (2) out of the way.

  1. Repeat Step 3 for the other side of the machine.

  1. Remove the floormat. Remove bolts (4) and plate (6). Raise floorplate (5) .

  1. Remove bolts (7). Reposition ECM (8) out of the way. Observe the location of the ECM ground strap for installation purposes.

  1. Remove bolts (9) and spring plate (10) .

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (12). Disconnect tube assembly (11). Loosen clamp (13) and disconnect the hose. Remove bolts (14) .

  1. Disconnect hose assembly (15) and tube assembly (16) .

  1. Remove bolts (18) and flange (17) .

  1. Remove fuel tank (19) .

  1. Remove bolts (20) and fuel level sender assembly (21) .

  1. Remove fitting (22) and the grommet from fuel tank (19) .

  1. Remove adapter (23) and adapter assembly (24) from fuel tank (19) .

  1. Remove fitting (25) from fuel tank (19) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply Tooling (A) to fitting (25). Install fitting (25) onto fuel tank (19). Tighten fitting (25) to a torque of 18 ± 2 N·m (13 ± 1 lb ft).

  1. Apply Tooling (A) to adapter assembly (24). Install adapter assembly (24) onto fuel tank (19). Tighten adapter assembly (24) to a torque of 40 ± 5 N·m (30 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Apply Tooling (A) to adapter (23). Install adapter (23) onto fuel tank (19). Tighten adapter (23) to a torque of 18 ± 2 N·m (13 ± 1 lb ft).

  1. Install the grommet and fitting (22) onto fuel tank (19) .

  1. Install fuel level sender assembly (21) and bolts (20) .

  1. Position fuel tank (19) in the machine.

  1. Install flange (17) and bolts (18) .

  1. Connect hose assembly (15) and tube assembly (16) .

  1. Install bolts (14). Position the hose and tighten clamp (13). Connect tube assembly (11). Connect harness assembly (12) .

  1. Position spring plate (10) and install bolts (9) .

  1. Position ECM (8) and the ground strap. Install bolts (7) .

  1. Position floorplate (5) and plate (6). Install bolts (4). Install the floormat.

  1. Position console assembly (2) and install bolts (3) .

  1. Repeat Step 13 for the other side of the machine.

  1. Install nut (1) .

End By:

  1. Install the solenoid valve and mounting (parking brake). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Solenoid Valve and Mounting (Parking Brake) - Remove and Install".
  2. Install the gear pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump - Install".
  3. Install the control valve for the work tool. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Control Valve (Work Tool) - Install".
