SUBJECT: Failed Sensors May Cause Hard Starting and Misfiring in 3406E and 3456 Engines
PROBLEM:
On the 3406E and 3456 Engines, fretting (due to vibration) may cause the 142-8394 Speed Sensor Group and the 142-8393 Speed Sensor Group to fail. When the 142-8394 Speed Sensor Group and the 142-8393 Speed Sensor Group fail, the 3406E and the 3456 Engines may experience hard starting, misfiring, and rough running. Failure of the 142-8394 Speed Sensor Group and the 142-8393 Speed Sensor Group will cause the following fault codes to become logged or active:
- 190-02
- 190-08
- 342-02
SOLUTION:
Two new potted-pigtail designed sensors have been designed to replace the 142-8394 Speed Sensor Group and the 142-8393 Speed Sensor Group. The 201-6617 Speed Sensor Group replaces the 142-8394 Speed Sensor Group. The 201-6615 Speed Sensor Group replaces the 142-8393 Speed Sensor Group. These new sensors will eliminate fretting attributed to vibration.
